Crochet Baby Hat with Flower Clippy

This project was a double score for me!  First I actually crocheted a hat and second I actually followed a pattern in order to crochet said hat!  Usually my attempts at anything that is not shaped like a square or rectangle fail.  Granted this was a very simple pattern and I did have a little help from a friend but I still did it all by myself! 

The only thing wrong with it is that it's too big for the intended recipieant....I think I may have used a hook that was too large.

So you will need some yarn, a crochet hook, and this pattern to make the hat.

For the flowers you will need silk flowers of your choosing (I mixed up two that I got at the $1 store), ribbon, hair clip, button or jewel, hot glue gun, and some glue.

Make your hat

No step by step instructions for the flowers here cause it's pretty simple but if you want them head on over to Skip to my Lou.

Take apart your silk flowers

Use the hot glue to put em back together how you want

Glue a jewel or button to the center

Use the hot glue to cover your barrette or hair clip with ribbon

Take a leaf from the flower stem and glue one side to the back of the flower, stick your open clip down and glue the leaf to the other side of the clip securing the clip between the glued sides.

Clip on to the hat. 

The flower is removeable and can be worn by itself too!

Easy Peasy Felt Garland

It started with this....

And very quickly ended with this....

A super easy felt garland.  You can cut the circles and big or as little as you choose.  You can also choose any colors that you want. 

Cut out your circles, decide on the pattern you want, and then run them through your machine one right after the other.  Select a coordinating ribbon to sew on to each end to hang.

With the all the cutting the whole project took under an hour to complete.  See easy peasy!

Friday Fix-Fast Gift 2 Sugar Scrub

This is a Lemon Sugar Hand Scrub. It softens and exfoliates all at the same time. It helps that it smells great and is super quick and easy to make! I will be making these as teachers gifts this year.

I have seen a lot of different receipes for this online. I pretty much made up my own and I didn't measure!

You will need:

1 Container. This can be any glass or plastic container of your choosing

White Cane Sugar

Olive Oil

Lemon Juice

Optional:

Tea Tree Oil

Essential Oils

Pour the sugar into the container filling it until almost full

Pour in the olive oil and start stirring until blended.

Stir in your lemon juice and tea tree oil (if you are using it) Add enough to get the scent you want.

The oil will push down the sugar so you will have to add more sugar and oil until the container is full. Just add both and stir until the container is full.

Add a ribbon and a pretty tag!

Beware that if used in the shower it can be very slippery!

A variation on the recipe

White Cane Sugar

Brown Sugar

Olive Oil

Optional:

2 tsp Cinnamon

2 tsp Vanilla

Use equal amounts of the sugar and follow the same directions as above.

Friday Fix- Fast Gift

This is a really quick and easy gift to give to someone with kids. It's a kit to make applesauce cinnamon Christmas ornaments. I got the idea from a fellow Craftster sally1019

You will need:

1. A tea towel, I got mine from the $1 store or any gift bag will do
2. A single serveing of applesauce. I got a 4 pack at the $1 store
3. I included 1/2 cup of cinnamon. Again 1 large container from the $1 store was enough for two gifts
4. A cookie cutter. I purchased a 5 pack of cutters from the $1 store
5. Ribbon
6. The recipe

I used the tea towel and sewed it into a gift bag. I jumped right in rather than thinking it through. I will give a mini tute below if needed.

Measure out 1/2 cup cinnamon and put it in a baggie.

Place all the items in your gift bag and tie closed with the ribbon.

I attached the recipe to the ribbon.

To make the dough:
Mix equal parts of applesauce and cinnamon.
If dough is too moist add a little cinnamon and if too dry add a little more applesauce.
Start mixing with spoon then use your hands.
Roll 1/4" thick and cut with cookie cutter.
Use a straw to make the hole for hanging.
Let dry for 3-4 days or you can cook in oven at 150 for 1 hour.

To make the bag from a tea towel:
Open towel and cut in half widthwise
Using the bottom half of the towel (the piece with the design)
Fold in half right sides together
Sew up only the side of towel (if you have dangly things on the bottom, if not sew the side and bottom. Turn right side out and you are done)
Turn right side out and sew across the bottom being careful not to sew the pom poms into the bag (which I did on one of the bags I made, oops)

Book Holder

This project came straight out of the pages of my most recent Family Fun magazine. I am a book lover and am hoping to share this love with my kids. So needless to say we have a ton of books. We had so many kids books that they could not be contained by the small bookshelf I had. Also it seems that most kids books are kinda small and don't really have a spine where you can read the title of the book. In Landon's case he can't read yet so he is usually drawn to the cover art. I have been trying to come up with a way to display the books in a way that makes it more inviting for Landon to pick out a book to read with me every night. Thanks to Family Fun I finally found a solution. So simple too! Now I can display a weeks worth of books for him to choose from. This way we also aren't reading the same book over and over again.

You will need fabric (sorry I didn't measure mine)

A double curtain holder (got mine from Walmart for $.96)

Two dowels

Family Fun used fusible webbing while I used my sewing machine. I think that it's pretty self explanatory but if you would like the step by step directions please visit Family Fun's webiste. Also please ignore the spot that Landon was peeling the wall off for some reason!

Ribbons!

I have seen many variations on the ribbon organizer around the blogosphere and decided to try my own. I purchased this baby blue shelf thing at Goodwill on half off day. All in all I paid $1 for it.

I used my drill and drilled two holes on either side. Well Ryan drilled the holes...

I spray painted it and the dowels white.

Then I added the ribbon and hung it over my desk!

I seriously thought I had way more ribbon than this. I guess it looked like more while piled in a shoe box.

$1 Store Craft-Haunted Mirror

I got the idea for this ghostly mirror from Better Homes & Gardens. I apologize this isn't the greatest photo of it. You can create this mirror for under $5.

You will need:

A mirror. I purchased a framed mirror at my local Dollar Tree

Sand Paper

Vellum and printer paper

A spooky image

First sand the BACK of the mirror in the spot you want your image to show. Sand it until you can see through it. I didn't understand the first step and started to sand on the front of the mirror. Ooops!

Print your chosen image on a piece of plain white paper and again on a piece of vellum or transparent paper.

Tape the image on vellum to the clear spot on the mirror.

Tape the second image on top of the first making sure it's just a little off center.

I think that next time I will try to find a smaller (possibly vintage looking? mirror and make my ghostly image a bit larger. Then display the mirror using a plate display.

I would also like to share a very simple stamped card I made and included in a Halloween swap package. I scored the stamp at Michael's for $1

Halloween Silhouettes

I got the idea for these from Better Homes and Gardens. I am sure you could use the spooky silhouette of your choice. A vampire or a ghost would be cute! Or you can download and use the ones I did here!

I cut the silhouettes out of black cardstock and glued them on to white cardstock and framed them in black frames from the $1 store.

Easy Peasy and cheap too!

Halloween Wreath How To

This awesome wreath cost me under $10 to make! I love the way it turned out and can't wait to display it on my door this year. I am sure you can find lots of other fun items at the $1 store to use if you don't like the skulls.

You will need

Fun Fur-Michael $1.99 (I needed three lengths)

Wreath Form $1

Skeleton Head $1. I only needed one package

Begin by hot gluing the fun fur to the wreath as you wrap it. It doesn't have to be wrapped really close together as you can fluff it a bit or use your decorations to hide any bare spots.

Then hot glue the skulls on and hang it on your door!

Easy Peasy under $10 and under 15 minutes to make!

Felt & Fabric Earrings + Tut

I made these earrings for the Ongoing Wish Swap. They were inspired by a pair on my partners wist.

They are super simple to make and took me only a few minutes to make. It's a great way to use up scraps! Gather some scrap fabric and matching felt pieces.

I also used some eyelets, an eyelet setter, some fusible webbing (not pictured) and three varying sized circle templates.

You will also need jump rings and earwires.

Fuse your webbing to the wrong side of your fabric.

Cut out a large felt circle, a medium, fabric circle, and a small felt circle.

Iron your medium fabric circles onto the large circles.

Poke holes on the top of your large circe and the top of your small circles.

Push an eyelet through and use the eyelet setter to attach the circles.

Attach a jump ring and earwires and you have earrings!

Earring Display

I finally made something for myself! All my earrings are usually jumbled up in my jewelry box. I tend to then forget which earrings I have and then forget to even wear them. This way all my earrings are organized and displayed nicely. The most wonderful thing about this is that it is completely customizable to your tastes.

I started with an 8X10 frame, a flat canvas and assorted ribbon.

Paint the canvas then use E6000 (orhot glue) to glue the ribbons of your choice around the frame. I found this the hardest part since you have to make them tight but not too tight. As you can see the top ribbon is perfect but the bottom one is too loose.

Next take the glass and such out of the frame and pop the canvas in.

Once everything is all dried start hanging your earrings!
